Looks like you left strawman-check off too. Locking doors doesn't harm your neighbors in any way. But denying rights to an accused person certainly does harm them. Sarah Palin was suggesting we do away with the concept of "innocent until proven guilty". How can you *not* have a problem with that?

what's your solution? everyone talks about wanting their complete freedon, yet it's that same freedom which allows bad people to plan and scheme. i dont want my freedoms taken from me either. but we have locks on our doors for a reason and i dont need to apologize to my nieghbors for locking my door at night. it is not them i fear. i wish we could have a plan which only targets the terrorists, but that seems inpossible to do. instead, people like you rant about our freedoms being taken.

Great quote, Tadhg. It's even scarier in the context of Goering's involvement in the Nazi party. Thanks for coming by. :)

OK? It's more than okay, it's required for effective management of the populace! A key quotation to add to your pair above:

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany... [I]t is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along... [T]he people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders... All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger."--Hermann Goering.

Here, Palin isn't necessarily defending war per se, but the trappings of war brought home to the domestic front (i.e. increased repression, legalized torture), but the basic point Goering was making still applies.

Also: hi! Glad to see you're still around and posting!
