Disgusting Safeway Milk Coolers
(click for larger version)
I’d always thought that our local Safeway (Rivermark Plaza in Santa Clara, actually a fairly “nice” area) was pretty lax in keeping their milk coolers clean, because of the vile smell of rotten milk when opening the doors. It’s a little hard to see in the BlackBerry photo, but there are several layers (in a few different colors) of congealed milk built up on the shelves — I don’t think these shelves have ever been wiped down. Somehow I never noticed this at Wegman’s.

ah… Wegmans…
That is a raging code violation right there. When I worked in dairy, we’d replace the “diapers” (dairy cooler liners) on a biweekly basis.
safeway store in my area are the same carts are filthy the cheep milk cartons leak I buy 1/2 gal. put it in my fridg. and it leaks. Safeway needs to switch to plastic
I just moved out to San Diego from Rochester, NY and I noticed that Vons/Safeway can be pretty disgusting. The produce is often unusable and today I noticed that the milk I bought leaks through the top of the container from pin-sized holes, even with the safety seal intact. I’m hoping it’s because the delivery guy was a bit rough in handling it and not because someone tampered with it.
I sure wish Wegmans would expand to the West Coast.
