What is it with blogs and cats?
A post by lilliebet got me thinking about something I’ve often considered before… Why do so many bloggers feel compelled to post pictures of their cats? It doesn’t really annoy me as much as baffle me. Are all these people graduates of the Wil Wheaton school of blogging?
Anyway, I was curious as to how many of these there actually were, and I smelled another Google query coming on. The last one was pretty well-received, so maybe you’ll like this too:

Great sense of humor, yours…
A hundred and sixty six thousand????
I rest my case.
I, too, share your disgruntlement with the over abundance of blog cat posts (as noted in my blog a few entries back, hehe)! I just don’t get it. Dog owners don’t post pics of their pet. Even people with babies don’t post as many pics as cat owners.
Your cat just isn’t interesting at all!! I’d rather read another blog quiz than stare at Mr Gibbles’s whiskered facade! Gah…
perhaps they like their pets so much, and so proud of it that they just have to post it and show it to the whole world (or at least to anybody who’ll be interested to stop by their blogsite).
hi! found you via BE.
What is it with blogs and dogs too? I don’t think its just cats, but photos of dogs with their toungues hanging out.
Not to rain on your parade, but,
blog (picture OR photo) (”my dog” OR “my puppy” OR “our dog” OR “our puppy”)
gets more hits.
Hm, indeed it does… must be that cats are more fun to pick on
I have cats and I’ve blogged their photos before, but suprisingly even to myself, I don’t post their photos very often on my blog.
I do like looking at other peoples’ cat photos though. I guess I just like cats.
So it doesn’t bug me at all.
speaking of Wil, I wonder if his cat Felix has passed on yet. He was pretty sick the last time I was there.
I guess people run out of stuff to blog about & cats are easy to blog about. Personally, I try to restrict my catblogging to Cat Blog Friday, but seeing catblogging on other days of the week doesn’t bother me. I love cats.
Hm, it looks like he has. Man, that makes me feel pretty lousy. There’s the story of my life — bad timing, insert foot in mouth. I know how bad it feels to lose a loved pet, so I apologize for the joke. Turns out it was in pretty poor taste.
