Why didn’t they give February 30 days and use the extra two to take a couple of the 31-day months down to 30? That would be much more consistent.

Consistent yes… but some of us retirees like those short months for payday purposes. But then it makes the next month even longer…sigh.
Because that would be practical and the human race is never practical…
February has fewer days so that the winter isn’t soo long. Remember winter Frnak? That’s when it’s cold and snows in some parts of the world.
*sigh* Tradition! It’s mankinds explanation for clinging to mistakes they don’t want to admit to. Kinda like America clinging to the Imperial System instead of moving to the Metric for instance. *grin* Maybe they will invent a new calendar in say.. 200 years time or so.
